Espiritu Santo Island

Natural Protected Area and World Heritage of Humanity

Mapa Isla Espiritu SantoEspiritu Santo Island has been a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site since 2005 and a National Park since 2007.

In it you will find an impressive scenic beauty; the contrast between sea and desert, volcanic rock formations, numerous virgin beaches, as well as a great quantity of endemic flora and fauna.

On the island you can do different activities, including kayaking, sport fishing, hiking on its trails or stand up paddle board (SUP).

The National Park has more than 10 incredible points to practice snorkeling or diving, either in its natural reefs or visiting the sunken boats in its surroundings.

Live the experience of staying on the Island in some of its Glamping camps and remember to schedule your visit with one of our certified operators.

Currently Espiritu Santo Island can be visited with a permitted capacity of 40% of its capacity. We ask you to stay informed regarding the protocols and guidelines issued by CONANP, SEMARNAT and PROFEPA.

The dream island you can visit on your next trip to La Paz
Espíritu Santo Island is one of the main attractions for everyone who visits La Paz. This magical place is considered a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its rich marine life, its unique landscapes that combine the sea with the desert, and the great biodiversity it holds.

The trip to Espíritu Santo lasts a full day and can be done aboard different types of boats such as yachts, sailboats, or pangas (small local boats).

Once you arrive at the island, it is possible to do activities such as snorkeling with multicolored fish, enjoying the play of a pod of dolphins while kayaking or stand up paddling, falling in love with the scenery through birdwatching of species endemic to the region, or walking along one of the trails established by the National Commission of Natural Protected Areas (CONANP).

On a regular basis, there are tour operators that offer excursions and visit various points of interest, such as the area where pearls were cultivated at the beginning of the last century, which today is home to a large colony of frigatebirds and other bird species. They also visit the islets, where from September 1st to May 31st, it is possible to swim with sea lions, dive, or snorkel around the area.

Most tours include lunch at one of the idyllic beaches, where you can practice kayaking, paddleboarding, snorkeling, or simply relax on the soft white sand while observing the different shades of blue in the sea.

The beauty of Espíritu Santo Island is the perfect setting to experience glamping — that is, the unique experience of camping under the stars without giving up comfort and style, right by the sea. Some tour operators specialize in offering this service and have trained, bilingual guides prepared to meet the needs and requests of visitors.

We recommend reviewing in detail the list of operators based in La Paz so you can choose the one that offers the type of trip you’re looking for; no matter which one you choose, it will always be a place you’ll dream of returning to.

How to get there?

The boats, from small pangas to world-class yachts, depart from the marinas of La Paz or from the pier at the Malecon.

If you come from Los Cabos or Todos Santos there are tour operators that offer transportation or you can also rent a car and drive on your own to La Paz, where you can hire the services of a tourist provider.

Please Remember...

When you go to the island, make sure you hire an authorized operator. For this reason, we ask you to demand your bracelet to enter the Natural Protected Area.
